First post. So I bought a used Mono a couple of weeks ago and just had the chance to sit down with it today and it seems that there’s somthing not quite right with it. The OSCs are really, really noisy, and initiating a patch creates nothing like it sounds in demos. Constant noise over the sinewave, not a pure tone.
Any ideas or have a bought a dud I have not updated firmware (not sure what version it is) but have tried the recalibration method, holding F#, G#, A# and Follow. All that did was remove the factory presets (not too worried).
Thanks in advance, I’m going to email Norand now as well.
Try installing V1.99 (if its already on there it will just overwrite it or update any earlier V1 version), after booting do a memory clear/reset as before. As i understand it if you are on any V2 version, the secondary boot loader necessary for V2 firmware installs will be deleted but this can be reinstalled again easily.
Hopefully you just have a bugged out Mono and its a bit stuck.
As you mention if that doesn’t cure it try the calibration: (from the manual)
To calibrate the oscillator and filter, turn o the unit, hold [C] + [D] on the mini-keyboard, and turn the unit back on. The calibration procedure will start. The [SEQ] LEDs indicate the progress of calibration of each oscillator and filter, so it will restart at the beginning twice. The calibration procedure takes about 3 minutes. It is recommended to calibrate Mono when it is hot, after being powered for at least 15 minutes. Note that the VCA is open when calibrating, so either disconnect the output or mute the synth’s channel !
Restart the synth once calibration is done.
Resonance Calibration/Amount
The maximum amount of resonance you want to get out of your synth is very subjective. Some people like very distorted self-oscillating resonance, others prefer no self-oscillation. On Mono it is possible to calibrate the maximum resonance level. To do so, turn on the synth, hold [C#] + [D#], and turn it back on. [PATTERN] and [RUN] LED will flash. You can play the synth normally and set the resonance at desired maximum level (best way is to turn down both osc levels, hold a note and increase resonance until you are happy with the self-oscillation level). When you’re done, press [RUN], the resonance maximum will be saved.
